Positive transformation happens after a series of positive choices.

“Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.” -Sheryl Sandberg

For the last few blogs, I have been focusing on Data Step 3: Transform.  Today is a Summary Post of all the components in Data Step 3.

Review of Data Step 3

Before we move on to the last data step, let’s review Data Step 3 and the sub-steps discussed:

  • School climate and culture must be transformed when school results are low.
  • Professional relationships are a key foundation in the transformation process.
  •  Identifying the problems is important, but what you do after the problem is what will bring about real change.
  • If you do not consider proactive measures for solution implementation, the transformation towards long-term results may not occur.
  • Implementation dip will happen. Support and lead your staff through this time.
  • Intentional consistent leadership strategies, beginning with a well-defined mission and vision will pave the way for success.
  • Transformation occurs when a leader focuses on high-impact activities first and then manages tasks as needed.
  • Effective coaching can transform instruction.
  • Three obstacles to implementing effective coaching are coaching expertise, time, and school climate for coaching.
  • Leadership strategies to transform instruction include:
  1. Create a vision of academic success for all students.
  2.  Lead instructional interactions with a focus on student learning.
  3. Use data to guide instructional decisions for continuous improvement.

The transformation process is critical to achieving long-term results. The school leader’s vision and actions will affect the school’s climate and culture when changing any systems that lead to results. As a school leader, always be clear on your vision and lead your staff towards it.

If you need assistance, bringing an outside facilitator (whether in district or out of district) can help you identify areas that need more support. They can help you define the priorities for your next steps and activities.

Empowering staff and transforming your culture is foundational to long-term success!
